The Office of Student Financial Aid awards the following scholarships to first-year incoming freshmen. No scholarship application is required; however, for those scholarships that require financial need, students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible after October 1 prior to their freshmen year at the University of Iowa. 

Iowa High Schools - Listed by County

Dallas, Jasper, Marion, Marshall, Polk, Story, or Warren

H.S. Ostlin Memorial Scholarship--Awarded to incoming first-year students from high schools in the central Iowa counties of Jasper, Marion, Polk, Warren, Story, Marshall, and Dallas. Preference given to engineering students. High school academic achievement is considered. This scholarship may be renewed.

Allamakee

Jacob Alfred Anderson--To an entering first-year student who is a graduate of an Iowa High School from Allamakee or Clayton counties.

L. R. Stock Scholarship--Awarded to first-year students who graduate from a high school in either Allamakee or Winneshiek county. Students must demonstrate financial need and academic merit.

Blackhawk

Dick and Donna McKay Scholarship--Awarded to first-time students who graduated from a Waterloo high school.  If no one is eligible from a Waterloo high school, second priority is given to students who graduate from a high school in Blackhawk County. This scholarship is based on financial need and the potential for academic success.

Clayton

Jacob Alfred Anderson--Awarded to an entering first-year student who is a graduate of an Iowa High School from Allamakee or Clayton counties.

Johnson

William and Joy Greene Scholarship--Awarded to first-time undergraduate students who have graduated from a high school in Johnson County or Linn County.

Linn

William and Joy Greene Scholarship--Awarded to first-time undergraduate students who have graduated from a high school in Johnson County or Linn County.

Walter and Ida Kansky Memorial Scholarship--Awarded to needy entering first-year students who are graduates of a Linn County high school.

Wapello

Albert M. and Mary L Efner Scholarship--Awarded to first-time undergraduate students who have earned an associates degree from Indian Hills Community College. Based on financial need and merit. If there are no qualified candidates from Indian Hills, first-time students from Wapello County high schools may be considered.

Winneshiek

L. R. Stock Scholarship--Awarded to first-year students who graduate from a high school in either Allamakee or Winneshiek county. Students must demonstrate financial need and academic merit.


Iowa High Schools - Listed by Town/City

Cedar Rapids

Eva M. Byerly Student Fund--Awarded to selected entering first-year students from Cedar Rapids public high schools who rank in the upper 25 percent of their graduating class.

Charles City

Elmer H. and Florence Krueger Gabel--Awarded to an incoming freshman graduate of Muscatine or Charles City High Schools. Based on academic merit, with financial need as a secondary consideration.

Clinton

Gwen and Lyle Brown Scholarship--To first-time students who graduate from a Fort Madison High School or a Clinton High School.  If there are no qualified candidates from those high schools, preference goes to first-time graduates of Southeastern Community College or Clinton Community College. All candidates must demonstrate financial need and merit.

Fort Madison

Gwen and Lyle Brown Scholarship--To first-time students who graduate from a Fort Madison, Iowa, High School or a Clinton, Iowa, High School.  If no qualified candidates from those high schools, then preference goes to first-time graduates of Southeastern Community College or Clinton Community College. All candidates must demonstrate financial need and merit.

Maquoketa

Scott German Scholarship--Awarded to selected entering first-year students from Maquoketa, Iowa. Financial need is considered.

Muscatine

Elmer H. and Florence Krueger Gabel--Awarded to an incoming freshman graduate of Muscatine or Charles City High Schools. Based on academic merit, with financial need as a secondary consideration.

Waterloo

Bettendorf

Timothy O. Peck Memorial Scholarship--Awarded to an entering first-year student who graduated from Bettendorf High School in the top 30 percent of the class. Must have ACT composite of 24 or better. Financial need is considered.

Calamus-Wheatland

Wilbur H. Dosland Fund--Awarded to an incoming first-year student from Calamus-Wheatland, Midland, or Central Clinton High Schools.

Centerville

Mary L. Padovan Scholarship Fund--Awarded to needy first-year students who graduated from Centerville High School.

Central Clinton

Wilbur H. Dosland Fund--Awarded to an incoming first-year student from Calamus-Wheatland, Midland, or Central Clinton High Schools.

Clarinda

Mary & Bill Richardson Fund--Awarded to first-year students who graduate from the Clarinda or South Page Community School District. If no students are eligible, second preference is given to students who graduated from a Page County high school and third preference is given to students who graduated from a Taylor County high school. Awarded on the basis of academic achievement and financial need. If there are no qualified candidates from these schools any Iowa resident will be considered.

Frederick and Mary Sperry Family Scholarship--Awarded to an entering first-year student from Clarinda High School with a minimum high school grade-point average of 3.50. Student must be majoring in premedicine, predentistry, engineering, business, or liberal arts and sciences.

Clay Central

Wendell L. Bailey Fund--Awarded to entering first-year students from Clay Central High School with preference given to students who resided in Royal, Iowa.

Clarkesville Leslie Asher Scholarship--Awarded to incoming freshmen who graduated from Clarksville (Iowa) High School. This scholarship is based on academic merit, with the possibility of renewal. Financial need is a secondary consideration.

Dubuque Senior

James & Zoe Connor Scholarship Fund--Awarded to an entering first-year student from Dubuque Senior High School with the highest grade-point average of those planning to attend the University of Iowa. Must have also been a member of the National Honor Society at Dubuque Senior.

Marja and Sabrina Davis Debate Scholarship--Awarded to an entering first-year student from Dubuque Senior High School in the upper one-half of the graduating class, with a minimum 27 ACT score. Preference is given to those who have participated in a debate program at Dubuque Senior High School or who have an interest in or intent to participate in the intercollegiate debate program at The University of Iowa. Financial need will be considered in case of a tie.

Pirkko and Jeffrey Davis Scholarship--Awarded to a female senior from Dubuque Senior High School who ranks in the upper one-third of her graduating class. Financial need is considered.

English Valleys

Roller Family Memorial Scholarship--Awarded to graduates of English Valleys High School planning to major in medicine, law, business administration, or music. Financial need is considered.

Jefferson (Cedar Rapids)

Jay Gross Scholarship Fund--Awarded to an entering first-year student from Jefferson High School.

Louisa Muscatine

John T. and Thelma V. McColm Scholarship--Awarded to an entering freshman graduate of West Liberty or Louisa-Muscatine high schools. Financial need is considered. This scholarship may be renewed.

Marshalltown

Foster O. Blake Memorial Fund--Awarded to an incoming first-year student who is a graduate of Marshalltown High School. Recipient must be enrolled full-time, making satisfactory academic progress, and have financial need.

Midland

Wilbur H. Dosland Fund--Awarded to an incoming first-year student from Calamus-Wheatland, Midland, or Central Clinton High Schools.

Roosevelt (Des Moines)

Randall Wallace Van Oel Scholarship--Awarded to first-year students who are graduates of Des Moines Roosevelt High School. Students must demonstrate financial need and academic merit .

South Page

Mary & Bill Richardson Fund--Awarded to first-year students who graduate from the Clarinda or South Page Community School District. If no students are eligible, second preference is given to students who graduated from a Page County high school and third preference is given to students who graduated from a Taylor County high school. Awarded on the basis of academic achievement and financial need. If there are no qualified candidates from these schools any Iowa resident will be considered.

Waterloo East/West

Harold and Bernice Swinton Scholarship--Awarded to an entering first-year student from Waterloo East High School. If there are no eligible recipients from Waterloo East High School, the scholarship will be awarded to a student from Waterloo West High School. This scholarship is based on financial need. Preference is given to students who help fulfill the University of Iowa's commitment to diversity.

Waverly-Shell Rock

Arens Undergraduate Achievement Scholarship--Awarded to an entering first-year student from Waverly-Shell Rock High School who demonstrates academic achievement and shows financial need.

West Liberty

John T. and Thelma V. McColm Scholarship--Awarded to an entering freshman graduate of West Liberty or Louisa-Muscatine high schools. Financial need is considered. This scholarship may be renewed.
