Nursing Student Loans are available to undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Nursing who demonstrate exceptional financial need. Students will automatically be considered for the Nursing Student Loan if they complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Funds are limited and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The University of Iowa administers the Nursing Student Loan, and it is serviced by Heartland Educational Computer Systems, Inc (ECSI).
How to Apply
- Complete the FAFSA.
- First-time borrowers must complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN).
- Accept, reduce, or decline your Federal Nursing Student Loan for each semester in MyUI.
Nursing Student Loan
- Available on a first-come first-served basis to undergraduate students in the College of Nursing enrolled in at least six credits with financial need. Financial need is based on the cost of attendance, student aid index (SAI) calculated from the FAFSA, and other financial aid available.
- The federal government pays the interest that accrues while the borrower is in an in-school, grace, or deferment status
- Interest begins to accrue when the borrower enters repayment
- We encourage all students to borrow this loan before borrowing PLUS or private student loans
