UI STEP - Student to Employed Professional course—Spring 2018 offering (Permission Code 945)

UI STEP is a two-credit-hour, 15-week course offered to UI student employees through the Leadership Program within Pomerantz Career Center.

College is a time of excitement, challenge, stress, fun and about every other adjective you can throw in there. Bottom line, students have a ton on their plate and a lot to think about now and into the future. With all that is going on in their lives, it is hard to know if their preparation and personal growth is up to par with the rest of their classmates. After this program, not only do we want students to be ahead of the average college student when it comes to self-awareness and preparation for the work world, but we want them to be light years ahead.

Below is an outline of the topics that students will discuss during their UI STEP course:

  • Student employment impact on your future employability
  • Job searching and outlook
  • Personal branding and how to sell yourself
  • Standing out to recruiters (Ruffalo Cody Senior Recruiter Guest Presenter)
  • Networking & utilizing social media for professional benefit
  • Resume writing (Career Center Presentation)
  • Interview preparation (Mock Interview Day)
  • College to Career transition coaching
